Wasilla High Graduate Seriously Injured - Poker Benefit Planned

Jake Collins, a Wasilla High graduate, was seriously injured during a recent hunting trip. He is currently at Providence and is facing a long and difficult rehabilitation. When i was told the circumstances of the accident i was astonished that he actually survived! Originally in a coma, Jake has been taking big strides forward and we hope he can make a full recovery. Many of our Mat-su players will recognize him as a regular at both the GrandView and Best Western tourneys. You can look in on Jake's progress at http://howisjake.blogspot.com/

The APA has been approached by a group of coaches and teachers from Wasilla and Palmer, along with Wasilla High team doctor Dan Larson, to put on a poker benefit for Jake. Of course, we have agreed, and we have a provisional date of Oct 1st at the Best Western Lake Lucille in Wasilla. We will put on a poker tournament for up to 200 people. The event will be completely free to participate in but Jake's connections and the APA are hopeful everyone who plays will make a $100 donation. Tickets will be very limited as many members of the valley community have already pledged their participation even though many of them don't even play poker!! We will try to accommodate as many APA members as possible, please e-mail us with your name and APA number if interested.

What more can we do to help? Anything and everything!! If you can help in any way please contact us. Doc Larson tells me he has already been promised some great prizes for both the final table and for give-aways as door prizes. If you have a business or in a position to donate something let us know.

People seem to really want to step up on this one....telling Jake's story around a poker table last night secured us an $1100 Hunting Bow from Fletcher's Archery in Wasilla and a $250 skateboard from Paragon Distributing! I've got a feeling this is going to be the biggest fundraiser we have ever been involved with!!

There will also be other events over the next few weeks to help Jake. Please check out Jake's site for details

Once we have complete details they will be posted right here. Thanks in advance for your help!!

****Disclaimer****For those "Officials" use!!

This is a completely, absolutely, Unequivocally, free to enter APA event and the only "consideration" anyone wants is Jake's recovery!
