DO SOMETHING!!!!!

Hello Everyone,
We are obviously entering a very important time as far as the future prospects, on various levels, of the game we love. With the local "busts" of private games, and the passing of the online gaming legislation, we must act! The very unpopular Internet Gambling Prohibition Act was sneaked through by attaching it, on the final day, to a popular Port Security Bill...it would never have passed on its own merit! Hopefully you have read the home page of this site..it has links to all stories related to this debacle.
So what can we do? It is more crucial than ever we all take some kind of action! You can start by e-mailing or writing to your local, state and federal representatives....contact info is readily available through the internet. Please stay away from legalization of "gambling" remarks...always use "poker" instead. That is what we want anyway! But the fact we use "gambling" just adds ammo to the uninitiated who have no idea of the fundamental differences of our game and house games like blackjack, roulette etc. So, write and write, and don't let them off the hook with generic "we oppose any escalation in gambling" replies. Post any replies you receive right here....we need to know all of their opinions. Furthermore, make a statement at the ballot box! Obviously, everyone should vote regardless but now it's more important than ever!
Join national organizations like the Poker Player's Alliance http://www.pokerplayersalliance.org/ and local ones like the APA. United, we have a much better chance of forwarding our goals and standing up to the powerful organizations looking to crush our game. Most of the organizations i have joined have a nominal membership fee but the benefits are worth much, much more.
Finally, as in most things in life, APATHY sucks!!! Apathy is exactly what our doubters are hoping for! Many of us post our views on forums like this one, which is great, but now those views must be heard elsewhere as well. So please, do everything you can to help save our game. However little it may seem, if we all do it, it will have a major effect. Do what you can but please DO SOMETHING!!!

On a somewhat related subject:

Tonight at 5.30 in the Student Union Den at UAA. "The UAA's Alaska Debating Society is going to consider the question of whether Alaska should legalize gambling in the form of poker, blackjack and other card games" Perry Green will join the ADS to comment on the debate and answer questions.

Only just found out about this and unfortunately i have prior commitments in Wasilla tonight. Not sure how interesting or important the event will be but wanted you all to know about it. I have requested minutes or whatever way they record it, if at all, and will post them

What's this I hear about Sheila not getting her main event seat this year? She won that fair and square back in November.
