Our Elected Official's Stance on Poker

Thought it would be a good idea to find out where our elected officials and upcoming candidates stand when it comes to poker. I urge you all to write to them and then post here when you get a response. I will go down the list and send them e-mails as well...all responses will be logged here!!! If there is someone in particular you would like to hear from, please let me know. Please get involved!!

I have put the letter i'm sending out in the comments. You will notice i stay away from the "your view on gambling" approach. As we as poker players know, the gambling/luck factor of our game is heavily outweighed by the skill involved. Furthermore, when use the "G" word it often conjures up images completely unrelated to our game. Plus it would be very easy for the recipients to come back with the......"i don't support any escalation in gambling in Alaska" cop out, when in fact, we are not talking about that at all!!! Once the uninitiated realize that poker is a complex, highly skilled game we will be much better off!

Full Tilt Poker & APA Join Forces for Online Events

I'm happy to report we have come to an agreement with Full Tilt Poker to hold APA-member exclusive online tournaments.

Members who sign up for a full tilt poker account under APA will be eligible to play. We will start them in approx. 3 weeks which will give you all plenty of time to get set up. APA points will be awarded under our normal criteria based on number of entrants for the final few months of the season. However, next year we will actually have an "online" region to go along with our brick & mortar locations. We will use feedback from you, the members, before we finalize all our plans...please let us know your thoughts!

We have options on what $$ buy-in tourneys we can set-up. The response from members i talked to at this week's Wasilla tourney seemed to agree $10 + $1 once a week would be acceptable to our members...once again, let us know what you think. Furthermore, APA will add monies to the prize pool to give you even more value...The APA will receive absolutely no money from the tournaments, 100% of any buy-ins will go to our weekly winners!

To get started please e-mail us at info@alaskapokerassociation.com for an invitation. Please use an e-mail that has never had a Full Tilt account. To play, players MUST be APA members and MUST sign up through our invitation. As always if you need help in getting started or have any questions at all just let us know.

Is it just Poker Players who think this is ridiculous??

Authorities putting a lot of time and money suppressing social poker games and charity fundraisers....is it it just poker players who see this as ridiculous and a huge waste of resources??

Thanks to Beth Bragg of the Anchorage Daily News. I think she sums it up here very well!!
